HTC: Working on New WP7 Smart Phone
HTC CEO has been on the news quite a lot lately, and this time, the man comes with some rather unsurprising but nonetheless exciting news (which is a nice break from all that fuss about the impending Apple lawsuit). The Taiwan based mobile phone manufacturer is indeed working on a new WP7 handset and it is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
The news is unsurprising as HTC already hinted at the fact that they will be bringing out a WP7 during the Mobile World Congress last month. Still, it’s a big thing to hear the news straight from the source as recent rumors of an HTC HD3 device has been pretty confusing to follow.
The rumored HD3 device was said to be the latest WP7 device –perhaps spawned by well wishing folks who were unhappy with the announcement that the HTC HD2 would not be compatible with the new mobile platform. The phone was said to have a 4.5 inch capacitive touch screen, a 1.5 GHz CPU and several other impressive specs that makes the device seem more like a pipedream than a real phone. Still, it is an impressive spec sheet and we would certainly be among the first in line if the phone was ever produced.
In any case, the new phone will be working in tandem with the HD2 to round up HTC’s Windows devices. According to reports, the Windows Phone 7 operating system is impressive, but it also alienates Microsoft’s original market, the business community. While WinMo devices never quite did well for the general market, they also were the second largest in the business class –second to BlackBerry, which is as high as anyone can go. It is said that the older WinMo OS will be renamed to WP Classic.
